The Acoustic Guitar

AcousticThe acoustic guitar is made of solid wood or plywood body with a hollow inside. The tops of acoustic guitars are usually made of spruce or cedar while the back and sides are generally made of mahogany, rosewood or maple. The necks of acoustic guitars are generally made of mahogany or maple. Generally there will be a hole, called the sound hole, in the top of the guitar.

The fretboard is a piece of wood that is fixed to the neck of the guitar that holds the frets of the guitar. Fretboards on an acoustic guitar are generally made of rosewood or ebony. The frets are the metal strips that are attached to the fretboard.

The bridge is attached to the top of the guitar and it is where the strings are anchored on the body of the guitar. Usually the strings go down some holes in the bridge and are held in place by some small pegs called bridge pins. The headstock is where the strings are anchored at the end of the 'neck'. This is where you have your 'tuning pegs'. Tuning pegs are what control the pitch of your strings.

Some of the more popular acoustic guitar brands out there today are Martin, Taylor, Ibanez, Takamine, Gibson, Breedlove, Larrivee,  Yamaha and a host of others.
