How To Play Guitar

Guitar BridgePlaying guitar is a combination of a few things. First of all you have to know a melody, scale or a chord to play. In this guitar lesson we will stick with chords. Next, you have to be able to feel the rhythm of the tune and strum or pick in time to the music. You also have to know what key the music is being played in so that you know what notes you should be playing.

So, number one is having something to play. This can be a melody, scale or some chords.  The video for this guitar lesson will teach you your open G major, C major and a D major chords. The chord diagrams are on the page for you as well. If you do not know how to read chord diagrams you can learn here.

Number two is learning to strum or pick in time. We will stick to strumming for this guitar lesson because we are using chords. If you need some more tips on how to use your strumming hand you can check out this lesson.

Number three is being able to tell what key you are in when you are playing. Here is a great lesson about learning how to find the key of a song.

Yes, guitar is a technical instrument, but it is also one of the more feeling based instruments. There is no right or wrong way to play the guitar, there is however good guitar playing, and bad guitar playing. Good guitar playing is when a guitarist is a part of his/her guitar. When they can feel the music or hear it in their head and can translate that to their fingers without error.
