Open Guitar Chords
If you are new to guitar then this will be a fun lesson for you. In this guitar lesson we are going to be going over some of the most important chords that you will ever learn. This guitar lesson video will cover seven of the most common open chords on the guitar. Those chords are A major, C major, D major, E major, G major, A minor and E minor.
Open chords are chords that are played using mostly notes on the first three frets. They also include at least one open strings when you strum the chord. There are chord diagrams for each chord on this page. If you don’t know how to read chord diagrams you can go to this guitar lesson on how to read chord diagrams before continuing.
Many beginner guitarists have trouble making their first guitar chords sound good. These first chords will usually sound muted or muffled because the fingers are not in the correct positions to make clean sounding chords. Sometimes the fingers just need time to build up strength too.
Remember to relax you hands as much as possible when making the chords and come down right on your fingertips. That should help the sound of your chords a bit.
Your fingers will probably hurt for a while but that is pretty normal. Just make sure to be consistent in your practice and you will get past the “painful” stage of learning how to play the guitar. Everyone has to go through this stage but it is worth it in the end. Make sure to practice at least 4-5 times per week for at least 15-30 minutes. If you do that the soreness in your fingers will gradually go away and you will be good to go.
